How to diagnose common car problems

1. Engine Won’t Start

If your engine doesn’t start, the issue could be a weak battery, faulty starter, or fuel system problem. First, check the battery charge and cable connections.

2. Unusual Engine Noises

Knocking, ticking, or whining sounds may indicate low oil levels, worn-out engine parts, or a loose belt. Inspect the engine oil level and check the timing and serpentine belts.

3. Steering Wheel Vibrations or Pulling

If the steering wheel shakes or the car pulls to one side, it might be due to unbalanced tires, misaligned wheels, or suspension issues. A wheel alignment and tire check can help identify the problem.

4. Brake Issues

Squeaking or grinding brakes suggest worn-out brake pads. If the brake pedal feels soft, there may be air in the brake lines or low brake fluid.

5. Engine Overheating

A rising temperature gauge usually points to a coolant leak, faulty radiator, or water pump failure. Regularly check coolant levels and inspect for leaks.

6. Warning Lights on the Dashboard

If a check engine light or any other warning light turns on, use an OBD-II scanner to diagnose the issue or seek professional help.

Car issues can often be identified with simple checks. If the engine won’t start, test the battery and starter. Unusual engine noises may indicate low oil or worn-out parts. If the car pulls to one side, check for wheel misalignment or suspension issues. Squeaky brakes often mean worn brake pads. An overheating engine could be due to a coolant leak or radiator problem. Always monitor dashboard warning lights and use a diagnostic scanner for deeper inspection.
